Against the wind
In Austria, ocean racing is not a common pursuit, but Norbert Sedlacek does not worry about little details like that. This former public transport official from Austria finally chose the ocean and a career as a professional skipper. He wants to gain his revenge: after damage to his keel and being forced to retire from the last edition of the Vendée Globe, Norbert is back again to try to complete the round the world voyage. After building his own 8-metre long boat, aboard which he was to spend two years sailing around the world, he continued with the Icelimit challenge in a 54-foot boat, then signed up for the 2004-2005 Vendée Globe, which he did not complete due to the keel problem. Having managed to get his boat home from Cape Town, he worked extremely hard to find new partners, to train and fine-tune his machine. After three years of preparation, Norbert is back, more determined than ever.
It is now all up to him. An experienced skipper, an ocean sailor, he will make up with his faultless determination for what his boat is lacking in comparison to the more recent builds.

Boat
His boat, a Joubert-Nivelt design from 1995 is obviously not able to rival the latest 60-foot monohulls. However, Norbert knows her from the tip of her mast to the bulb on her keel like the back of his hand. If you want to be ranked, first you have to finish…
