Akena Verandas is none other than the former PRB aboard which Vincent Riou took part in the 2008 Vendée Globe. She is also the sistership to Michel Desjoyeaux’s old Foncia, which won that race. She has been flying the colours of Akena Verandas since June 2009.

Presentation
Cali aiming high
“I have been thinking about the next Vendée Globe ever since the last one finished.” Arnaud Boissières cannot hide his impatience at wanting to set off again around the world. He has good reason, as Cali, as he is nicknamed, surprised many people in the last race on his first attempt. Setting out without any lofty ambitions, apart from completing the race, he ended up in seventh place, in a race where many were forced out. An excellent result, achieved moreover on a boat that was no spring chicken, as she was launched back in 1998.
A former Mini Transat competitor, he has certainly come a long way after working as a professional skipper in the French West Indies and preparing boats for Catherine Chabaud and Yves Parlier. After a couple years in the Figaro circuit from 2002 to 2004 – among other experiences - Arnaud Boissières achieved his goal of taking part in the round the world race in 2008. This was naturally a magical experience for the skipper of Akena Verandas, who will be taking part in his second Vendée Globe in 2012 with incredible determination and motivation. Arnaud is aiming high this time and has the means at his disposal to achieve his goals as he will be sailing a very competitive boat: Vincent Riou’s former PRB. His rivals know that he will be one to watch. He is a very likeable sailor, warm-hearted and funny, but this should not obscure the fact that he is a true competitor. And a serious outsider.
