Boat

Dominique called upon the designers in the Owen-Clarke studio to work on his Téménos II, now called Mirabaud. Built in June 2006 in New Zealand and completely refitted since the last Vendée Globe, the boat has since then covered an impressive number of miles in Dominique’s expert hands. That is likely to be a major advantage in terms of reliability and getting the most out of the boat.

Presentation

Quiet force

Dominique Wavre will be fifty-seven when the race begins. It was a long time ago that as an adolescent he first sailed dinghies on Lake Geneva, before becoming an art student in Geneva. Over four decades of ocean racing, Dominique Wavre has acquired a wealth of experience on all the seas around the world having sailed a huge number of miles in various races. He has clocked up four Whitbreads (including one win in 1986) and already three Vendée Globe races, two of which he completed. The Swiss yachtsman also finished second on two occasions in the Figaro Single-handed event and no longer fears anyone nor anything. He knows the three capes route and the breakers in the Southern Seas like the back of his hand.

Although he did not manage to finish the last two races around the world – the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe and the 2010-2011 Barcelona World Race – the other Swiss legend (leaving to one side Bernard Stamm) certainly is not about to give up. For his fourth Vendée Globe, Dominique Wavre is aiming to gain his revenge. Methodical, precise like a Swiss watch, and with a boat that he knows perfectly well, he will be a very serious contender again.
