He succeeds in everything he does
Performance is not always linked to age. Boris Herrmann proved just that in 2009, when he won the Portimao Global Ocean Race, the double-handed round the world race with stopovers for Class40 boats, along with his fellow German Felix Oehme. A first attempt and a huge success for the young sailor, who had already left his mark on ocean racing, when at the age of just 20, he finished eleventh in the 2001 Mini Transat.
After becoming one of the leading lights in Class40, Boris is taking a step up and moving to the 60-foot IMOCA boat with the goal of taking part in the 2012 Vendée Globe. Meanwhile, he has taken part in the 2010-11 Barcelona World Race, racing double-handed with Ryan Breymaier. Competing in his first IMOCA event with a round the world race was quite daring. But he is one of those people, who manage to succeed in everything they do. And the German and his co-skipper certainly surprised everyone. Sailing smoothly and obviously well prepared, they completed the race in fifth place on Neutrogena, Roland Jourdain’s former Veolia Environnement.
Boris Herrmann can now boast two round the world voyages, one of which he won. So he is quite right to come knocking on the door of the Vendée Globe. If he manages to get his budget together, he will become the first German skipper to take part in the non-stop single-handed round the world race.
