Slow Boat to the Vendee
The duo going for fourth and fifth are not exactly streaking home across the Bay of Biscay this morning. Dominque Wavre has been averaging just 7.6 knots over the past four hours, Sébastien Josse just 3.7 knots over the same period. Fortunately Wavre is set to pick up a SE very soon providing him with around 15 knots of wind, the latest ETA being 22 to 2400 hours GMT. Josse is less well placed and is likely to be stalled considerably today with an ETA of midday tomorrow.
Jean Pierre Dick on Virbac Paprec is going to have to try to escape a ridge of high pressure. He's on a NE'ly course hoping to track down 15 knot W'lies. If he manages to make good progress today then he should make good ground.
Conrad Humphreys (Hellomoto) and Joe Seeten (Arcelor Dunkerque) are in NE'ly trade winds, the wind now well lifted. They have around 23/27 knots with big seas, conditions easing off tonight and becoming more stable.
American Bruce Schwab should manage to escape the Doldrums today, the wind and squalls dying off.
Benoit Parnaudeau is in frustratingly light wind, making low speeds while waiting for Trades.
Anne Liardet may well close quickly on the sailor from La Rochelle as she flies along with the best day's average of the fleet in a favourable south/ south-westerly air flow.
The tail of the fleet, Raphael Dinelli and Karen Leibovici are midway through a high. Raphael has north-westerlies with wind on the beam while Karen is in prevailing upwind conditions.
