Karen Leibovici (Benefic), the final competitor still racing in the Vendée Globe, is taking her time to finish. The high-pressure bubble, which has engulfed the shores of Vendée are stopping her from making headway less than 20 miles from the finishing line. Just like the many spectators, who have turned out on the quayside in Port Olona to welcome her, she can barely hide her impatience. Karen remained at the helm for a long time during the night to make the most of the north north easterly flow, which has allowed her to come down from the coast of Brittany since yesterday. She is now waiting for some wind to get up from the east to start moving again, and hopes to enter the channel, while the tide still allows her to do so, in other words between 15.30 and 20.00 GMT.
Here’s what she said earlier today: «I didn’t get much sleep. I was afraid of being completely becalmed during the night, but the wind kept up. It started to become a problem this morning and since then, I have been making short tacks under the Island of Yeu. I’m trying to take advantage of every last puff of air, as I don’t want to have to spend another night at sea. I can already see some boats drawing near.
