Let’s go round again!
« It’s a great little trip! I saw loads of things, lots of birds, some extraordinary seas and some unimaginable skies. It never stopped being fun. I don’t know if I’ll ever do the Vendée Globe again, I was in it to win, I’ve got a family, I’m getting on and am no longer as carefree as Ellen MacArthur for example!»
This colourful language came from Joé Seeten, when he reached dry land after the last edition of the Vendée Globe, which he finished in 10th place at the helm of VDH’s « old red cigar ». It is clear that this racer really enjoyed the experience of the sea air and discovered some new horizons, which was just great for him! This bitterly contested maritime adventure gave him the taste for more, and this sailor, who is well known for his racing performances around the cans and hard-fought races, did not need to think long about it. Joé is back again with his boyish looks ready to go round once more!
He has earned his stripes
Joé, originally from the industrial North of France, a trained electronics engineer and master sailmaker by profession, was brought up very early on in the salty air of racing (four wins in the Round France Sailing Event, world champion in the Quarter Ton with his friend Bertrand Pacé), before he took the plunge on his own at the end of the nineties. He started with offshore races with a few single-handed Figaro events before taking up the Open 60-foot category. The rest is history, with the climax being his first entry in the single-handed non-stop round the world race in 2000-2001. Joé was won over by ocean racing, and since then has been preparing for his second Vendée Globe. He got hold of a more modern Mono from the Finot-Conqs that precede the latest generation. Meanwhile, Joé – who still divides his time up between his professional activities and this repeat project around the world’s oceans – finished in a good third place in the last Route du Rhum. Proof, if need be, that the racer is now accomplished at ocean racing and that his inexhaustible enthusiasm – even in the worst storms – will remain his most valuable possession during this 20,000-mile route.
