It may be summer on the beaches, but news about the Vendée Globe skippers keeps coming. Among the features in this fourth video (available in French), the Solitaire du Figaro in which seven IMOCA skippers are taking part.
A look back also at Marc Guillemot’s win in the first edition of the Round Spain race, the "Vuelta Espana" won by Safran ahead of PRB. Another skipper is due back in his base in Lorient on around 6th August: Jean-Pierre Dick (Virbac-Paprec) has just qualified for the Route du Rhum and the Barcelona World Race. Finally, you will also be able to watch Bernard Stamm, who before setting out on the Solitaire, visited the Décision yard in Switzerland, where his next 60' Open is being built.
With the first leg of the Solitaire du Figaro finishing in Gijon and the fleet setting off again for Brest, we look back at the first leg victory achieved by Armel Le Cléac'h (BritAir), who finished ahead of a certain Yann Eliès (Generali-Europ Assistance). Armel Le Cléac'h shortly before the start: "This Solitaire race is very important for me, as it will allow me to prepare my solo races, improve how I manage my sleep and see how I do against some tough competition (45 racers) out on the water. It’s going to be a fantastic battle and a great way to prepare for the Route du Rhum".
As for Sébastien Josse, he is making his return to the Figaro circuit in the colours of the new Vendée France training centre. He believes this is never an easy race and insists that he is asking himself hundred of thousands of questions and it is not because he has already done the Vendée Globe that he does not feel apprehensive.
But this summer’s big news was also Marc Guillemot’s Spanish victory (Safran) ahead of Vincent Riou (PRB). Marc tells us how pleased he is to have won this race aboard Safran, which is now even faster. Michel Desjoyeaux also went to Spain to give some encouragement and advice to the crew of the Spanish monohull Movistar, which is in fact none other than his former Foncia.
To finish, Bernard Stamm reveals for the first time pictures of his new Kouyoumdjian-designed boat, which is under construction at the Décision yard in Switzerland.
