A relentless demonstration, dominating three legs out of four and at the same time, grabbing his second Solitaire du Figaro win after achieving ultimate victory in 2005 in the same event. In Dieppe on Wednesday 24th August, Jérémie Beyou almost achieved the Grand Slam. What are his plans for the future? Taking part in the 2012 Vendée Globe, of course!
Jérémie Beyou gace us a real masterpiece of sailing today. Dominating throughout this 2011 Solitaire du Figaro, he was not about to let anyone else take victory in this final leg, which set off from Les Sables d'Olonne three days ago... just as in two of the previous legs between Caen and Dublin and between Dublin and Les Sables d'Olonne. Simply magical. It is all the more impressive when we remember that he dominated 99% of the first leg – between Perros-Guirec and Caen via the south of England – before a change in the weather enabled the runner-up Fabien Delahaye to take over. Third place on the podium goes to Erwan Tabarly after a determined struggle.
"The future is in the 2012 Vendée Globe"
"It all worked out, I felt confident, I had the impression that I was in a state of grace as I always managed to be where I had to be. As soon as I attempted something, it worked out well, and it feels simply fantastic," explained a clearly delighted Jérémie Beyou, who was overjoyed to achieve this second win and follow in the footsteps of his sailing friends from Morlaix Bay: Nicolas Troussel and Armel Le Cléac'h - who let’s not forget came second in the last Vendée Globe. So what lies ahead? Jérémie Beyou sees his future aboard a 60-foot IMOCA boat: "There’s the Vendée Globe next year and I hope this second win in the Solitaire will help me find partners to allow me to take part", he freely admitted. On the pontoon in Dieppe, he went on to say: "I am going to remain optimistic about that". So if anyone is interested...
