Temenos II being transported to Europe
The Swiss sailor, Dominique Wavre, had his monohull Temenos II stowed on board the New Zealand cargo ship The Esmeralda on Sunday 23rd July in Tauranga, along with two other yachts, which will remain with her throughout her long journey.
For this long transit, Temenos II had her mast removed, was taken out of the water, then placed onto a cradle, where she was fixed firmly in place by dozens of straps and chains. She was then completely covered in a huge heat-shaped plastic tarpaulin, which is supposed to protect her from the exhaust fumes from the cargo ship’s engines. The cargo vessel will head up across the Pacific to pass through the Panama Straits, before making her way across the North Atlantic and into The Channel. She is due to reach Zeebrugge in Belgium in late August.
