Just seven months ago, Dee Caffari became at the age of 33, the first woman to sail single-handed non-stop around the world against the wind and currents. Owner of Conrad Humphreys former Hellomoto, the British yachtswoman announced today she is planning to take part in the next Vendée Globe and work is due to start on the construction of a new 60-foot boat designed by Owen-Clarke.
A renowned yachtswoman, Dee Caffari is planning an ambitious race programme for 2007 and 2008, in order to get ready for the Vendée Globe in 2008/2009. During the first phase of the campaign, she will be using her training boat « Aviva », formerly known as “Hellomoto”, Mike Golding’s old Group 4. However, the construction of a new boat specially designed for the Vendée Globe should begin shortly. Dee Caffari and her team have chosen the designer Merfyn Owen, of the Owen Clarke Design team.

A top level international team

The Aviva Ocean Racing team will be benefiting from the help of campaign director Andrew Roberts and campaign manager Harry Spedding. Both supported Dee Caffari in her single-handed circumnavigation in 2006. Joff Brown has also joined the team as project leader. He has played an important role in various top level campaigns for Open 60 boats and has prepared boats for Mike Golding, Conrad Humphreys and Alex Thomson. Dee Caffari explained: «I already know I´m mentally tough, but now I´ve got to focus on developing my technical skills so that I can successfully go from 0 to Open 60 in under two years! What more could I ask for in my next challenge? Sailing events don´t come any tougher than the Vendée Globe - the world´s best sailors, competing in the world´s best boats, in the biggest fleet... ».
