A new Open 60 being built for Jonny Malbon
Artemis Ocean Racing Team has just announced they are building a brand new 60-foot Open based on plans by Rogers Yacht Design. The design of the new boat is currently being worked on and building should be finished in time for the 2008 Vendée Globe.
The guiding principle behind the boat has been decided upon and tank tests are due to begin shortly. Simon Rogers has acquired more than 17 years of experience and know-how of designing these boats. The new 60-foot Open is due to be launched early in 2008.
Jonny Malbon, the skipper of Artemis Ocean Racing commented: "We have our work cut out this year with our race programme and the building of the new boat. We’ve a great team working on the boat for us here in the Caribbean and also in England for the building of the new boat, which is progressing nicely. It’s a really exciting time for Artemis Ocean Racing and I can’t wait to get out there racing!"
Mark Tyndall, the CEO of Artemis concluded: «As we enter our second year of sponsorship in sailing we are all greatly looking forward to what lies ahead. The team has an exciting and challenging schedule but we believe that they are well positioned to achieve great things. We wish them all the very best and will be following their progress avidly.»
