His preparation has been immaculate and successful, consistently proving that the Farr designed Gitana 80 has all the attributes to win the Vendée Globe, not least reliability.

Second in last year’s Transat Jacques Vabre, after a 15 year break from solo monohull racing, he came back to win the return race the BtoB Transat, and winning this year’s Artemis Transat, as well as the crewed SNSM and Grand Prix Petit Navire.

Peyron did his first MiniTransat at 18, When he agreed to do the first race he had only a dream, no boat. But he made it to the start line and wrote himself into the epic folklore of the race. Some weeks after the start he diverted to rescue Philippe Poupon who had capsized.
Having moved seamlessly through the years and the technical developments, he remains an old school, intuitive sailor who has embraced the innovations and changes, a great communicator of his love of ocean racing, and has appeared relaxed and never happier than when working on his boat with his esteemed team.

Favourite? He does not care either way, other than the title bestowed on him suggests he and his team must have been getting most things right. (more in www.vendeeglobe.org audio)
