At a time when a certain number of the future contenders in the forthcoming Vendée Globe are making their way towards Bahia and others are getting ready to set sail from Barcelona, the date today is an important date in the minds of the ocean racing world, as it will be in exactly one year from today that the start of the sixth Vendée Globe will take place in Les Sables d’Olonne.
This long awaited Vendée Globe, which brings together the best of everything: the best boats, the best design teams, but also the best skippers like Golding, Desjoyeaux, Josse, Le Cam, Peyron, Stamm and the others, without forgetting the title holder, a certain Vincent (the Terrible) Riou! With one year to go before the start, everyone is busy sizing each other up. The teams are watching each other, asking questions, monitoring performance, while carrying out their preparations on the water for their winning attempt.
Which of these 27 skippers will enter the history books during the next edition of the Vendée Globe? We shall begin to learn more in 365 days time…
