November 10. 2008 at 20:14The tally of skippers forced to head back to Les Sables d'Olonne since the start has risen to seven following the news that Kito de Pavant's Groupe Bel as well as Yannick Bestaven on Aquarelle.com have both been dismasted. Derek Hatfield on Algimouss Spirit of Canada is returning with electrical problems.

Bestaven is not reported to be in any danger and informed the Race Office at 1726GMT that he had cut the rig and sails free and is making back to Les Sables d'Olonne.
It was at almost the same time that Canadian skipper Hatfield had informed them of his decision to come back to try and fix an electrical problem. He was 231 miles from the start and finish port when he turned back.
Groupe Bel was 260 milles from Les Sables d’Olonne and positioned at 46°23N
08°27W. De Pavant told the Race Office of his decision and was heading probably towards to Les Sables d'Olonne.
