November 11. 2008 at 11:40As the winds become increasingly favourable to allow the skippers to really press down the accelerator, a group of six boats is making something of an escape at the top of the Vendée Globe fleet. Paprec-Virbac 2, with Barcelona Race winning skipper Jean Pierre Dick, has more than doubled his lead since the last position report.
He is 2.4 miles ahead of Loïck Peyron who made the most inshore pass of
Up there with this leading group, who should be getting slightly more wind as they chase the tail of the cold front, are PRB, Brit Air, BT and Delta Dore
Then a gap of 16.8 miles has developed back to Safran which leads the chasing pack.
Ecover 3 has gained one more place, up to ninth again, 45 miles behind Paprec-Virbac 2, while Aviva is 12th , Roxy gaining another place to 13th ahead of Bahrain Team Pindar in 14th. Toe in the Water continues to make places and is 16th, 97 miles behind the leader.
