Tuesday evening’s standings show Roland Jourdain to have taken up the running at the front of the fleet.

With his 2004 launched Lombard designed Veolia Environnement, optimised by Juan K, ‘Bilou’ is computed to be leading Jean Pierre Dick by 4.2 miles to become the sixth leader so far of this sixth edition of the Vendée Globe.

Seb Josse on BT, now the most easterly, inshore boat of the pack of six, is up to fourth, 10.6 miles behind Jourdain.

In eighth place Mike Golding has Ecover 3 has more or less held his own in terms of distance to the lead group, if anything making a small gain on sixth Armel Le Cléac’h on BritAir.

Otherwise it is still 12th for Dee Caffari, 13th for Sam Davies and 14th for Brian Thompson.  Caffari has extended very slightly on Davies, gaining 1.2 miles.

Speaking of the big winds and seas of Monday night Jourdain reported today:

“Veolia Environnement is a good boat in these conditions, and I know it really well which helps. We’ll see what happens in the next few days as we flirt with the high-pressure system and have quite a long port tack, which should be quite fast. Then we’ll be able to see how much difference the new machines can make.  But for now, everything is fine!”
