The leaders spoke of an improved wind angle and faster, wetter sailing, contemplated the St Helena high pressure, while other spoke of the simple pleasures of going fast.
Yann Eliès (Générali): Has just accelerated and can now advance towards the south more quickly. 17 knots of wind and advancing at 15 knots. Sea is choppy, but after front went over wind has become steady. Still wants to look after his boat. Has same type of spreaders as Beyou, so that makes him cautious. Thinks he has found a good rhythm. Needs to look after himself and rest is important. As warm, took a shower and feels much cleaner.
Dominique Wavre (Temenos): 15 knots of wind, but in better direction. See still confused, so hard on boat. Saw Beyou during the night heading for
Sébastien Josse (BT): A lot wetter, but a lot faster. 20-23 knots of wind and speed of 18-20 knots under solent and mainsail. Relatively calm seas, but a bit choppy. Anticipating some more upwind sailing.
Michel Desjoyeaux (Foncia): Pleasant conditions and a little wind, but not in favourable direction. Choppy seas in opposite direction to wind. Ballast in the bow. Hasn't touched the tiller since the Doldrums, as pilot can do as well as him in these conditions. So has been busy looking at weather. Got some rest too. No problems with the boat. Bit cooler at night and put fleece back on. Believes route will be longer than usual. Not as confident about St.Helena returning to normal position.
Samantha Davies (Roxy): Starting to accelerate. 16 knots of wind and boat doing 14.5 knots reaching. Warm weather, so pleasant. Automatic pilot working well and not using too much batteries. Managed to get some rest and therefore feels good. (Pink wool on spinnaker to make it easier to hoist. )
