Jean-Pierre raises the bar
News
December 02. 2008 at 21:10Josse leads, Jean Pierre Dick sets the high score for the moment.
Seb Josse is hanging tough at the front of the Vendée Globe fleet this evening, a clear 37 miles ahead of second placed second placed Yann Eliès on Generali, while the by now traditional evening trading of places occurs behind them.
Over the last few hours Jean-Pierre Dick, the southernmost of the chasing group, has reaped the reward of his positioning and has been making a blistering 18.8 knots average speed between the two ranking reports, the quickest in the fleet, and in fact setting the highest intermediate average speed of the race to date. While there is expected to be drop in wind speed for the leaders tomorrow, much more is expected and we can be certain that Dick’s high score will soon fall. Meantime his speedd ensure he has gained nearly six miles on Josse.

Jean Le Cam, on the similar 2004 design VM Matériaux, holds eighth but both he and ninth placed Mike Golding appeat to have lost between three and five miles each, speeds descending down the top nine with relative distance from the front they are sailing on.
