Arnaud Boissières is still having some quick spells despite the lighter breezes and was less than 145 miles from the finish, on course for Les Sables d’Olonne at 0530hrs this morning.
Steve White has tacked back towards
Rich Wilson has passed the latitude of the Cape Verde islands to his east now and still looks like he has another day of trade winds sailing, perhaps as much as another 300 miles of trades. He has been making a steady 9-10 knots all night but the weather picture in front of him has not improved at all and he is facing a circuitous route to Les Sables d’Olonne adding perhaps 500 miles to the direct route.
Raphael Dinelli in 10th place has been getting the Doldrums experience, slowed to 2-3 knots at times, but has been sailing mainly NW’ly all night. He seems to have 5-10 knots of NE’lies and has 150 miles to cross the Equator back into the Northern hemisphere.
Norbert Sedlacek is 480 miles behind Dinelli making averages of 7-8 knots, still in the E’ly trade winds of 10-12 knots and will probably start to reach the Doldrums tomorrow.
