This afternoon between 12h00 and 13h00 (GMT), the boom on Fondation Ocean Vital broke. Raphaël Dinelli was sailing in a thundery low with winds between 35 and 40 knots, leading to a very heavy, crossed swell.
When Raphael went to take in a reef, the boat was swept along on a wave and the boom broke on a shroud. Raphaël is currently heading north at 7.5 knots under staysail. He is trying to head for a high-pressure area in order to find lighter winds and calmer seas to attempt to carry out repairs. According to Météo France, he is due to reach this area in around12 to 15 hours time
