The Vendée Globe is not only about grown-up adventurers. For this seventh edition, the Vendée General Council has decided to focus on the young public with a website designed just for them: www.vendee-globe-junior.vendee.fr. This website is intended for children, allowing them to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 2012-2013 edition of the Vendée Globe, either at school or in family. The interface features various data that will help them follow the race day after day and participate in the activities offered around the Vendée Globe.
The objective is quite simple: Providing teachers and their students with everything they need to follow the race. But also giving them access to a database full of information that can prove useful in many different subjects.
A dedicated booth in the Village
In order to totally immerse themselves in the event, children will be greeted in the Village in Les Sables d’Olonne, where a dedicated area will await them, helping them find out more about the race and its environment. Children will have the opportunity to discover the specificities of the « Everest of the Seas » and to understand what it is like to spend such a long time on a yacht. Educational kits featuring thematic flashcards for students (and their teachers) will be available.
Out-of-school activities are also scheduled. From October to June, children will actually get to become photographers in the « A vos clichés » (« Let’s take pictures! ») photography workshop. Young sea enthusiasts will also be given the opportunity to spend a day with the SDIS rescue team, making them more familiar with people involved with the dangers of the sea.
The Vendée General Council hasdefinitely spared no expense to please this large and young audience before and during the race. More than 50,000 children are expected in the dedicated area throughout the three weeks of the Village opening.
