Here is the video replay of Alessandro Di Benedetto's finish on Friday, February 22. The French-Italian skipper took the 11th place of the 2012-2013 Vendée Globe on Team Plastique.

To Alessandro: Congratulations to you for completing the Vendee Globe and bringing your boat back in one piece! You have truly been one of the most outstanding characters of this amazing race, always sharing and always with that warm smile on your face. I will never forget the Santa stunt you did in the southern ocean, so far from the battle between the front duo, but instead giving the Race another dimension, which makes it even more interesting. To the Vendee Globe crew: I want to thank you with all my heart for the production of this edition of the Vendee Globe! You have done an amazing work with the web site and the media coverage, press conferences etc etc. It has been total entertainment for 3+ months. You also managed to show all aspects of the race, from the fierce battle for the epodium to the practical jokes of some skippers, from the technical insight to the amazing HD videos from the worlds most remote place and the focus has been on the skippers and that is of course what makes Vendee Globe so much more interesting compared to Volvo Ocean Race. I already look forward to the next Vendee Globe and I am sure you will develop the coverage even further. For that edition I also hope there has been som IMOCA rule updates to secure that boats will not lose their keels in non-extreme conditions, so that this Race can continue to be about who is the best tactician and who can drive the boat at the optimum...and of course about the skippers personalities and experience sharing. Thanks again for the "best Vendee Globe" so far and until the next edition.

I congratulate Alessandro on his arrival. A truly very special person in the world of sailing. His perservance, good humor and overall outlook simply inspiring... Perhaps that puts him right up front with the winner..... Bravo.....

Interesting to note, there was only 3 knots difference (average) between Francois and Alessandro. The difference is amplified because of the distance traveled.
