February 01, 2008Marc Guillemot and Michel Desjoyeaux ninth and tenth to register

 

Some top names complete the list of the first ten official entrants for the Vendée Globe : Marc Guillemot (Safran) and Michel Desjoyeaux (Foncia) have completed their registration, after qualifying during the Transat Ecover B To B. The two highly experienced Breton yachtsmen are up there among the favourites for the next Globe. By coming first and second in the last Transat Jacques Vabre and by doing well in the Transat Ecover B to B, they have shown they are top contenders. Sailing on boats from the latest generation, which were the most impressive in 2007 with their speed, they could both figure on the podium for the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe in a year’s time….

January 31, 2008Arnaud Boissières, the eighth participant to sign up

Arnaud Boissières has completed his application forms for the Vendée Globe. The skipper from La Rochelle achieved his qualification on board Akena Veranda during the Transat Ecover B to B, finishing in ninth place. “Cali” sailed solo in this race after the Transat Jacques Vabre, where he finished twelfth with Jean-Philippe Chomette as his co-skipper.

 

January 25, 2008De Pavant becomes the seventh man

Having qualified for the Vendée Globe 2008, when he took part in the Transat Ecover B to B, Kito de Pavant, skipper of the Groupe Bel monohull today became the seventh name registered for the next edition of the Vendée Globe. After a single-handed transatlantic race, in which he shone to finish in second place behind Loïck Peyron, Kito has handed over his large red monohull for a winter refit, during which the skipper from Montferrier (South of France), intends to improve her performance capablities still further. January 25, 2008Yann Eliès, sixth candidate to sign up

Since the launch of his 60´ Generali in Vannes on 21st April 2007, Yann Eliès has never hidden the fact that the Vendée Globe is the major goal of his programme. After taking part in The Race and two Jules Verne Trophy events alongside Bruno Peyron, the young skipper from northern Brittany has been busy sailing, in order to be perfectly ready for the start of the Vendée Globe. Having fulfilled all the requirements for his registration to be accepted, Yann has thus become the sixth skipper to sign up officially for the Vendée Globe 2008-2009.

 

January 17, 2008Marc Thiercelin with the French Naval shipbuilders

Marc Thiercelin announced today that he will be taking part in the next Vendée Globe on a brand new 60-foot Open currently under construction that will bear the name of his partner: DCNS, the French Naval shipbuilders. This entry for the Vendée Globe (his fourth) is part of a project, whereby Marc will be transmitting his experience to young racing skippers. Marc Thiercelin: «I’m proud to be the godfather of the Young talent section of the DCNS. It’s no ordinary sporting partnership, but an operation that also includes teaching, and a social and citizenship element. The idea of a handover has accompanied me throughout my life and I’m in particular involved as Marine Ambassador for the European Union by promoting sea-going professions. For several years I have dreamed of a partnership, which could bring together competitive sailing and my social interest. On a sporting level, I’m very ambitious about my participation in the Vendée Globe 2008 and the other races in the programme.»

 

January 10, 2008Jean Le Cam and Samantha Davies sign up

After Roland Jourdain, Jérémie Beyou and Jean-Pierre Dick, who were the first three to complete their registration for the Vendée Globe, now Samantha Davies and Jean Le Cam have fulfilled all the requirements. In other words, having completed their qualifying run, they have now completed all the necessary paperwork.
