Vendée Globe Wins and Performances :
Second attempt at the Vendée Globe (retired in 2000-2001)
Javier Sansó – who is nicknamed “Bubi” – is perseverance and adventure personified. Describing himself as a “solo sailor”, the skipper from Majorca already felt at home on his parents’ boat even before he was able to walk. The Mediterranean Sea has always been an important part of his life, a place where he could discover new things and make his dreams come true. Bubi Sansó’s passion for ocean exploration comes from his experience of sailing around the world with elite crews and that is why he embarked on his first big adventure: Sailing to the South Pole on the « Rael » schooner in 1997. Since 2004, Javier – who is also an expert in hydraulics, energy and electronics – has been boat captain and project manager on Wally “Tiketitoo” and has designed a brand new monohull using 100% clean energy.
Expert in hydraulics, energy and electronic
With various experiences on different types of boats under his belt, Bubi has already participated in several IMOCA Open 60 races: Transat Jacques Vabre in 2001 and 2003, the 2001 EDS Atlantic Challenge and the 2000-2001 Vendée Glob. His most recent performance was a 4th place in the overall ranking of the 2008 Barcelona World Race. He has crossed the Atlantic Ocean over twenty times – including five times in solo – as well as the Indian Ocean twice. He is therefore perfectly familiar with offshore sailing, especially in polar regions – and from all these projects came his dream of participating in the Vendée Globe. Since he was forced to retire in 2001, his only objective has been to give it another try and to conquer the most extreme of the offshore races.
