The leaders in the fleet passed through the Cape Verde Islands during the night using various options, which temporarily shook up the rankings.
However, we need to be patient before drawing up any real conclusions.
For the moment at the front, they are sailing in a  10-15 knot trade wind.
Watch out for the wind shadow in amongst all these volcanic islands with their peaks up to 3000 metres.  Those chasing along behind need to make sure they do not give up any more ground.
A weak to moderate trade wind for the group trapped yesterday off the Canaries.
The Portuguese coast is letting the fleet get away in a northerly flow, which is strengthening to 20-25 knots.
The tail-enders in the fleet are crossing the Bay of Biscay downwind.
However, now most of the sailors are now beginning to focus on the weather around the Equator from around 8° north, but the first thunderstorms are appearing at 10° north and with them come dangerous phenomena like lightning and violent gusts, but more frequently, calms under the clouds.
