Into the other hemisphere

The leaders have made their way out of the ITCZ and will be sailing in the ESE'ly trade winds, blowing at around ten knots today (Friday). These winds will strengthen to 14-18 knots this evening. The leaders will therefore be sailing upwind towards the southern hemisphere with a SE'ly swell building.
Those chasing after the leaders are benefiting from more favourable conditions in the ITCZ, but some more squalls are appearing, after disappearing for two days. These thundery interludes could disturb their progress.
Those that are still around Cape Verde or further north will experience lighter trade winds, slowing down them down after a few days of good speeds.
