No significant change
Weather
January 09. 2009This expression frequently used in weather bulletins applies perfectly to today, because all of the competitors are in identical weather patterns to those we saw yesterday.
The biggest change is the one that concerns the duo at the front, who are currently entering the high-pressure area. The strong SW'ly winds are moving eastwards and the lighter winds have not been allowing such high average speeds since last night. Near the Falklands, Brit Air is benefiting from a stronger NNW'ly wind, which will be strengthening in the next 24 hours. As Roxy and Safran approach the Horn in the coming days, they are likely to see rougher conditions. Further back, all the competitors are having to deal with the southern edge of a high in the South Pacific, which moved significantly closer to the Forties after the first five boats passed. This has been making it much more difficult to get by the Ice Gates over the past few days.
