Hold-up in the high
Weather
February 13. 2009The high is well in place to the north of the Bay of Biscay, taking Roxy prisoner during the night, but Sam should get away from it in the next few hours with a NW’ly wind veering NE’ly at around 8-12 knots, enabling her to head for the harbour in Les Sables early on Saturday morning.
Safran, Pindar and Aviva will also be slowed in the calms before sailing upwind in an 8-12 knot ENE’ly airstream.
Akena is still suffering in light airs, but a trough to the south should enable her to get going and find a SW’ly flow, Steve White should take advantage of the same opportunity to head north.
Fondation Océan Vital is finishing with her last southern low, and will soon be heading upwind in a 20-25 knot northerly, which will ease off and veer NE’ly, and begin to tackle the ridge.
For Nauticsport Kapsch, there will be a few more hours of downwind sailing before another stormy low arrives with the wind swing from the south to the north-west, but with winds of around 30-35 knots, which is less than they just had; The last low surprised him, although it had been forecast by Météo France.
