As Aviva sails the final miles in this Vendée Globe, there are still two competitors left in the South Atlantic, both sailing upwind in 12-18 knot north-north-easterly winds making it difficult to take the direct route. They are going to have to be patient before that becomes possible.

Rich Wilson, who crossed the Equator yesterday, has reached an area of moderate thundery activity with a lot of manoeuvres ahead and a NE’ly airstream slowing his progress towards the finish.

Steve White is still in light winds and is not finding it easy to pick up the disturbed westerly flow.

Akena is in a moderate to strong SW’ly airstream with winds between 15-25 knots and is due to reach Les Sables at the end of the week.
