After the severe gales late yesterday, the wind veered westerly and then northerly at 15 to 20 knots (30 to 40 km/h).
The headsail area is increasing as the wind comes around to offer downwind conditions and the speeds are on the way up.
It is at an average speed of more than fifteen knots that the fleet will be skirting by the edge of the high off Portugal in seas that are beginning to calm down.
