The Vendée Globe is the ultimate reference in regards to solo sailing racing. That’s why this event has logically earned its nickname,“the Everest of the seas”. Every four years, this solo non stop round the world without external assistance crowns an exceptional sailor. Along the outward and the return course, the soloists must round the three mythical capes : cape of Good Hope to the South of South Africa, cape Leeuwin to the South of Australia, and the famous Cape Horn at the tip of South America.
This very demanding  andamazing human and technological adventure is done on 60-foot monohull boats, 18.28 meters long : IMOCAs. Since its first edition, theVendée Globe has rewarded TitouanLamazou in 1989, Alain Gautier in 1992, Christophe Auguin in 1996, Michel Desjoyeaux twice in 2000 and in 2008, Vincent Riou in 2004, François Gabart in 2012 and finally Armel Le Cléac’h in 2016who holds the record of the race in 74 days 3 hours and 35 minutes. The ninth Vendée Globe will set sail from les Sables d’Olonne on 8th November 2020 at 13:02.
