An idea that started in Vendée

The project began at SAEM Vendée, the organiser of the Vendée Globe. The idea was to put cameras on board and follow a handful of skippers up close. French public broadcaster France Télévisions and the production team signed up.

There have been series about the Tour de France and Formula 1. Now the Vendée Globe has one of its own,

Alain Leboeuf
President of the Vendée Departmental Council and of SAEM Vendée.

“For a long time, we showed the race: the start, the rankings, the finishes. Audiences never saw everything that makes it possible. Now we can show the Vendée Globe in all its grandeur, with the great stories that come with it. That’s for the people of Vendée, of course, but also for viewers all over the world.”

“The Vendée Globe is an extraordinary race, a challenge like no other, and a remarkable human and sporting adventure. Its global reach carries a whole region in its wake: Vendée. This documentary series is a new chapter in how we tell the story of this legendary race. It gives viewers unprecedented access to the skippers and to everyone who makes the challenge possible. It’s a fresh way of showing the everyday lives of sailors who achieve the extraordinary, and of bringing the full intensity of this iconic race to the public,” adds Alain Leboeuf.

One sailor at sea, a whole team ashore

Filmed during the 2024-2025 edition, the series follows six skippers on their 45,000-kilometre voyage around the world: Jérémie Beyou, Conrad Colman, Clarisse Crémer, Violette Dorange, Pip Hare and Thomas Ruyant. Three women and three men, French and international sailors, with some campaigns built to compete and others built around the adventure. Beyond the skippers, the cameras also follow the families ashore, the shore teams and Race Direction.

With international distribution by Red Bull Studios, the series takes Vendée’s name to audiences worldwide. And the story goes on: the next Vendée Globe sets sail from Les Sables d’Olonne on 12 November 2028.
