MACIF announces the construction of a new IMOCA for the 2028 Vendée Globe, with British sailor Sam Goodchild at the helm

On Monday 13 October, MACIF – a long-standing sponsor that won the 2012 Vendée Globe with François Gabart and the latest edition with Charlie Dalin – announced the construction of a new IMOCA yacht for the 2028 Vendée Globe. At the helm will be British skipper Sam Goodchild, who finished ninth in the last solo round-the-world race.

Sam Goodchild will be teaming up with Charlie Dalin, who will take on the role of naval architect advisor and performance consultant, bringing his technical expertise and experience of winning around the world.

The team will also be strengthened by Charlotte Yven, current MACIF Figaro skipper, French Elite Offshore Racing Champion 2025 and the first woman to reach the podium in the 56 editions of the Solitaire du Figaro. She will join the project as Sam's co-skipper and replacement skipper, marking a new step in the promotion of young talent and gender diversity within the MACIF team.

With this complementary and ambitious trio, MACIF confirms its commitment to a long-term project combining sporting performance and knowledge sharing.

Joining a high-performing team like Macif's is a real opportunity for me. I have been working with this team for several months now, and I have found a lot of kindness and attentiveness, which pushes us to perform even better. I would like to thank Macif for believing in me, and Charlie for placing his trust in me.

Je vais vivre différemment le prochain Vendée Globe, mais finalement que ce soit à terre ou en mer je sais que je le vivrai tout aussi intensément et que je ferai tout pour porter ce projet le plus haut possible avec Sam et l’ensemble des équipes !
