35 years old

Saint-Malo (35)

Since 2010, year of his first Route du Rhum in Class40, Louis Burton has sailed 8 transatlantics and two round-the-worlds solo (one participation and one finished), including the last Vendée Globe 2016-2017. Everyone praised this 7th position in the race obtained on an old IMOCA and one of the heaviest of the fleet. In 2017, thanks to his main sponsor’s support, Bureau Vallée, he took hold of ex Banque Populaire VIII, the IMOCA foiler winner of the last Vendée Globe. He renamed it Bureau Vallée 2. Since then, Louis has started a second campaign around the world with his war machine. With the Vendée Globe 2020-2021 as pinnacle. Having showed up in the off-shore racing milieu only ten years ago, Louis Burton grew up quickly by enriching his nautical background year after year.

Today married to Servane Escoffier, worthy heir to the Escoffier dynasty, and father of two children, he manages his team BE Racing in Saint-Malo while competing in races. With each of his performances on the water, Louis has proved his rightful place in the exclusive circle of circumnavigators. Louis will be 35 years old for the 2020 Vendée Globe. Even though his IMOCA foiler Bureau Vallée 2 isn’t of the latest generation, it will still be very competitive, as it proved during the 2019 season with the top speed reached.  Speed is one of Louis Burton’s main passions and he intends to remind this to his competitors all along the next Vendée Globe. Also, he never forgets that defending the colours of Saint-Malo has its own requirements.

Winner of the Vendée Globe 2016-2017, Louis Burton’s IMOCA foiler can still fight at the front. In 2019, Bureau Vallée 2 underwent important optimization work, in particular, an adjustment system for the foils. An innovation that enabled the boat to gain up to 2 knots of speed on a reach. With a well-designed and optimized boat, Louis Burton knows that he is in possession of an IMOCA which could potentially be at the front of the 2016 generation boat group.  And maybe even tickle freshly built ones that would be lacking a period of adaptation. To win the race, you must finish it first. With such a machine, Louis Burton has strong assets in hand.
