Oliver Heer launches his 2028 campaign aboard a foiler

On Tuesday 17 February, Oliver Heer officially launched his Vendée Globe 2028 campaign. With Oliver Heer Ocean Racing, the Swiss sailor is opening a new chapter focused on performance.

The project is taking on a new dimension: the acquisition of an foil-equipped IMOCA – formerly owned by Justine Mettraux, who finished 8th in the 2024 Vendée Globe – a strengthened team and the establishment of a new base in Gosport, UK.

The boat is currently undergoing work at Team Beyou Racing in Lorient before a training phase in France and then its transfer across the Channel.

On the partnership front, two Swiss companies have confirmed their commitment: Bossard, as technical partner, and Burgerstein Vitamine, which is extending its ‘Tut gut’ initiative. Other opportunities remain open for the next solo round-the-world race.

Crossing the finish line of my first Vendée Globe did not mark the end of the story; it was only the beginning. I had a very clear idea: the second campaign had to be more ambitious, more efficient, faster. Over the last twelve months, we have capitalised on our experience, built a new partnership model, found new supporters, acquired an IMOCA with foils and structured a new team around a new base. Our goal is clear: to run a competitive campaign for the 2028 Vendée Globe.

This new campaign centres around the slogan ‘Embrace The Challenge’. Inspired by his experience of solo ocean racing – notably the 99 days spent alone at sea during his first round-the-world trip – it highlights the ability to face uncertainty, cultivate focus and give your best in demanding environments. Developed in collaboration with Professor Dr Wolfgang Jenewein, mental performance coach and long-standing partner, this approach draws on the demands of high-level competition to demonstrate that performance is above all based on a mindset that can be developed and maintained, and to encourage everyone to turn their own challenges into opportunities.
