The Vendée Arctique starts, the first solo race qualifying for the 2028 Vendée Globe

The Vendée Arctique – Les Sables d’Olonne has now set sail! This Sunday at 1.02 pm (French time), the nine skippers competing crossed the starting line in a light southerly breeze, blowing at between 4 and 7 knots. In these light conditions, the fleet remained particularly close together as the boats crossed the line.

The start of the race took place in a calm atmosphere, but things are set to get complicated very soon. Over the next few hours, the competitors will have to contend with crucial strategic decisions, tricky transition zones and the arrival of a front expected on Monday. The run back towards Ireland is set to be a fast-paced one, leaving the sailors little time to rest.
