The 2028-generation IMOCA launches keep coming

With the Vendée Arctique – Les Sables d’Olonne barely over, attention has already turned to the next Vendée Globe. The reason is simple: the launches of the new-generation 2028 IMOCAs are following one another. After Thomas Ruyant, Kojiro Shiraishi became the latest skipper to put his new boat in the water on Tuesday, with Boris Herrmann’s set to follow next week.

Designed by Guillaume Verdier and built by Multiplast, the new IMOCA DMG MORI GLOBAL ONE stands out with its highly innovative architecture. Its hull, which certainly caught attention when the boat first emerged from the Lorient shipyard, reflects an approach inspired in particular by technologies developed for the America’s Cup.

This launch marks the culmination of several years of design and construction work, and now opens the next phase of the project: the boat’s first sea trials.

For this symbolic moment, Kojiro Shiraishi was surrounded by his entire team as well as the sailors who will join him for future crewed races. Among them were Sam Davies and Nicolas Lunven, two of the leading names in the Vendée Globe.
