Before the Big South in 2028, the Far North in 2026! The Vendée Arctique unveils its new route

Organised by the Vendée Globe team, the Vendée Arctique returns in 2026 with a brand-new challenge. For this third edition, and for the very first time, skippers will be required to cross the Arctic Circle (66° North) — at a longitude of their choosing — before returning to Les Sables d’Olonne.

This freedom of route is a first in the world of offshore racing. It opens the door to a wide range of trajectories, varied strategies, and a race full of suspense and unexpected twists.

A solo, non-stop, unassisted race, the Vendée Arctique 2026 will be the first qualifying event in the 2028 Vendée Globe cycle. As a Grade 2 race, it will award 200 points to the winner in the qualification rankings. To be eligible for the next Vendée Globe, skippers must also complete this race — or another solo Grade 2 race — within 150% of the winner’s time.

As a key milestone in their preparation, this event will give sailors a unique opportunity to test their boats in extreme conditions, compete solo for the first time against their future rivals, and take a decisive step on the road to the Vendée Globe.
