Pierre-Louis Attwell officially launches his 2028 Vendée Globe project

A new adventure is beginning for Pierre-Louis Attwell. Having cut his teeth in the Class40 series, the skipper has launched his IMOCA RESILIENT – formerly known as Lazare – in Lorient, with Tanguy Le Turquais (17th in the last Vendée Globe) at the helm, thereby officially kicking off his campaign for the 2028 Vendée Globe.

This boat, with its impressive achievements – having been helmed by Marc Thiercelin, Éric Bellion, Damien Seguin and, most recently, Tanguy Le Turquais – is embarking on a new chapter driven by a project that is both sporting and social. Living with Crohn’s disease, Pierre-Louis Attwell has made resilience the guiding principle of his commitment, with the ambition of demonstrating that vulnerability can become a driving force for performance.

I’m leaving him a fantastic boat that has given me so much enjoyment and enabled me to achieve my goals, namely to finish the Vendée Globe with a strong performance among the non-foiling IMOCAs.

For this first stage, the boat is decorated in temporary white livery, pending the unveiling of its final colours in June 2026. Until then, the skipper is focusing on getting to grips with the boat before gradually stepping up the pace, with the 2026 Route du Rhum and then the 2028 Vendée Globe in his sights.

Driven by a small team and values of inclusion and pushing one’s limits, the RESILIENT project is part of a tradition of ocean racing where performance and commitment go hand in hand.

Resilience embodies the idea of turning adversity into a driving force. Whether you are a patient living with a chronic illness or a sailor facing the ocean, the ability to bounce back is the key to sustained performance. This name pays tribute to all those who, day in, day out, demonstrate this quiet courage to live an extraordinary life despite the invisible challenges they face.
