Benjamin Dutreux has quite a challenge ahead of him. The skipper from Vendée got involved rather late in his Vendée Globe project and now intends to make up for the time lost. Benjamin Dutreux has quite a challenge ahead of him. The skipper from Vendée got involved rather late in his Vendée Globe project and now intends to make up for the time lost. In this race against time, the young navigator knows that he has several solid arguments. First, his boat : in Alex Thomson’s or in other talentuous navigators’s hands such as Alex Pella, it has proved itself around the world. Second, his background : born in l’Ile d’Yeu, Benjamin knows that he can count on the solidarity of Vendée inhabitants who will push together so that his project succeeds. Finally, his experience : despite his young age, he has learned the ropes on the Figaro circuit, one of the most demanding in terms of performance. Another source of motivation comes from his involvement with the Water family, an organization which continuously alerts on the damage caused by pollution and global warming. Water Family makes aware adults as children of necessary protection of  water, human health and planet. With this certitude, he feels he is capable of moving mountains.

IMOCA monohull

OMIA - WATER FAMILY

This Farr plan is without any doubt one of the IMOCAs which has sailed the most miles. In Sébastien Josse’s hands, then in Roland Jourdain’s, it won the Route du Rhum and has always stood out as one of the most accomplished monohulls of its generation. After a full makeover, it was steered by Japanese Kojiro Shiraishi during the last Vendée Globe but had to retire after dismasting in the Indian Ocean. This monohull still has a rightful place in the fleet of boats with conventional appendices.
