In a bubble

“I knew little about the Vendée Globe before this year’s edition and I wasn’t particularly interested in it.

This year, I spent a whole week in the Sodebo sponsored Media Centre at the heart of the Vendée Globe race village.

The area was exclusively accessible to journalists, skippers and their families. It was a real bubble, a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of the village where you could find peace and quiet, relax, meet up and do your interviews.

I was in the front row seats of the house!

Not only was the view stunning overlooking the pontoons, the boats and light from sunrises and sunsets, it was also a unique and privileged place for interaction with the skippers and their technical teams.

I learnt a lot about the race, about each competitor and I discovered very specific jobs within the technical teams. But more than anything, I have met people who were very accessible and kind. Before this experience, I had imagined skippers to be star-like, being stressed, unavailable and always in a hurry. Well, it was quite the opposite!

I was very proud to be the one offering them a comfort break with coffee, fresh fruit juices and cookies. By the end of the week, I knew their little personal habits!

Today, I’m completely taken by the Vendée Globe adventure and every day, I bring the day’s tales to my children!”
