40 years old

Damien Seguin or the art of winning on different fields ! We know the champion in dinghy sailing who won medals in the Paralymics and World Championships. But we are discovering the off-shore sailor who is taking his place among the peloton of candidates for the next Vendée Globe. Born without the use of his left hand, Damien Seguin has never considered his disability as prohibitive, always finding arrangements that enabled him to sail and perform well in double-handed or solo races.

After great results on the Class40 circuit, it was logical for him to engage in a solo round-the-world. For this, he has called upon Jean Le Cam’s advice who helped him to develop his boat and shared his experience around the world. Precious support in regard to the encouraging results of Apicil’s skipper since he started in the IMOCA Class : always at the forefront of “classic” monohulls with centerboards, he regularly brushes foilers. Demonstrating that, with willpower and intelligence, the most audacious projects can compete.

  • Designer: Groupe Finot-Conq
  • Chantier : Multiplast

  • Length: 18,28m
  • Beam: 5,85m

  • Number of drifts: 2
  • Mast height: 29m
  • Keel blade: acier forgé

  • Downwind sail area: 610m2

Powerful and versatile, Damien Seguin’s Finot-Conq plan has had great media coverage as it was the star in the movie « En Solitaire » about the Vendée Globe. But, Damien Seguin was attracted more by its simplicity and reliability than by its photogenic qualities when he considered taking the start of the Vendée Globe. Since then, the monohull has had a makeover under the guidance of Jean Le Cam who has seeked to do the most difficult thing when improving the performance of a sailboat : simplify it. Together, the two men have also reflected on the ergonomy aboard in order to enable Damien to fully take advantage of the boat’s qualities. A clear success in regard to the first results.
