Toulon (83)

He has kept his word. In 2012, Sébastien Destremau had decided that he would take part in the 2016 edition. Aboard his monohull which he knew wouldn’t reach the first positions, the navigator from Toulon finished his round-the-world against all odds. Despite multiple technical issues, he managed to write a sort of epic, a story about experiencing the Vendée Globe differently. For Sébastien Destremau, the quest for a result had quickly stopped making sense, the essential being to live his adventure to the end.

With this outlook on the race, he became the idol of the public and some media who started to follow the route of this funny sailor able to share his emotions –  the one generated by a sunset or by an albatross flying. His race was the opportunity for a long introspection that he later transcribed in a book and after in a comic book which tells the story. For 2020, Sébastien Destremau problably tells himself that there are many more stories at sea to be told, and that he may still be the best one to do it.
