39 years old

Didac Costa, the sailor from Catalunya, is back.. We remember this fireman from Barcelona who had to return to port just after the start from les Sables d’Olonne. He benefited from a chain of solidarity initiated by his colleagues in Les Sables. His 2016 Vendée Globe rarely gave him pleasure as Didac Costa had to face numerous technical problems. The cause was a very limited budget and an interrupted preparation after the monohull “One Planet, One Ocean” was struck by lightning just a month before the start. But, being accustomed to fire, Didac stood his ground and overcame the mishaps that added up. Such perseverance triggered a triumphant welcome on his return to les Sables d’Olonne. For this 2020 edition, he intends to prepare better in order to be perfectly ready for the start and fully enjoy his round-the-world. This year, he has the support of the FNOB, Barcelona Ocean Sailing Foundation which organized the first editions of the Barcelona World Race : a strong asset.

This Owen-Clarke plan designed for sailor Ellen Mac Arthur finished second in the Vendée Globe 2000 behind Michel Desjoyeaux.  Didac Costa will be sailing aboard for the third time around the world – this shows the harmony between them. Simple to manoeuvre, it is essentially a healthy boat that the skipper now knows inside out. With the support of the FNOB, the sailor from Catalunya will take advantage of several months of preparation, enabling him to optimize the potential of his machine. He can now hope to do better than the beautiful fourteenth place earned in the 2016-2017 edition.
