Sam Goodchild, 1st in the IMOCA Globe Series championship

In 2023, Sam Goodchild was competing in his first IMOCA season, and what an incredible season it was!

After taking part in legs of The Ocean Race aboard Holcim-PRB, he took possession of his boat, Thomas Ruyant's former LinkedOut, and joined the "We Sail for People and Planet" collective. In 2023, Sam Goodchild finished 3rd in the five races he entered: Guyader Bermudes 1000 Race, Rolex Fastnet, Défi Azimut, Transat Jacques Vabre, Retour à la Base (solo). He is now looking ahead to the Vendée Globe: "If you look at the history of the Vendée Globe, you can see that anything is possible. The beauty of this race is that nobody knows how it's going to turn out. If you put all the boats on paper... then I don't stand a chance of winning, in fact there are quite a few people ahead of me. But that's not how it works", he explains. One thing is certain, his consistency this season and this IMOCA Globe Series title make him one of the favourites for the next Vendée Globe.

IMOCA 2023 Championship podium

1 - Sam Goodchild (425 pts)
2 - Yoann Richomme (417 pts)
3 - Jérémie Beyou (384 pts)

Calculation method

Each skipper scores a number of points based on his ranking, the number of participants and a coefficient specific to each event. For example: if 30 boats start a race with a coefficient of 5, the first boat scores 30 x 5 = 150 points, the 2nd boat scores 29 x 5 = 145 points, etc. The Vendée Globe, the flagship race in the championship, has the highest coefficient, 10. The 2024 edition will be included in the 2024 championship.
